About the D&D Loot Generator

This loot generator creates random treasure based on the treasure tables in the D&D 5th Edition Dungeon Master's Guide (DMG, Chapter 7). It supports both individual treasure (what a single creature carries) and treasure hoards (a dragon's hoard, a bandit camp's stash, etc.).

Individual vs. Hoard Treasure

Individual treasure represents what a single creature might carry in their pockets or pouch. It is typically just coins. Treasure hoards are larger collections of wealth accumulated over time and include coins, gemstones, art objects, and magic items.

CR Tiers

  • CR 0-4: Low-level treasure appropriate for early adventures. Copper and silver coins, small gems, basic magic items.
  • CR 5-10: Mid-tier treasure with gold coins, valuable gems, art objects, and uncommon magic items.
  • CR 11-16: High-tier treasure with platinum coins, rare gems, expensive art, and rare magic items.
  • CR 17+: Legendary treasure hoards with vast wealth, priceless gems, and legendary magic items.

Magic Item Rarity

Magic items are categorized by rarity: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Very Rare, and Legendary. Higher CR tiers are more likely to include rarer magic items in their treasure hoards.
